Herman Witzig is one of USA Gymnastics’ first success stories. As a founding father of the sport, little is known of his life outside of competition, but his work on the mats a half century ago was exemplary. The two-time Olympian competed with the Swiss Turners of Hudson County where he won the 1930 National AAU Parallel Bars Title as well as nine ECAC Conference Championships medals while competing for New York University.
