Eugene Wettstone

Gene Wettstone spent his career at the dominant Penn State University where he coached 38 years. There, his teams won nine NCAA Championships and four National AAU Titles. His coaching tenure, however, was not limited to Big Ten Conference competition. Wettstone’s success in guiding the Nittany Lions earned him head coaching jobs of two Olympics and the U.S. National Team for seven years. The University of Iowa graduate is a Helms Hall of Fame inductee and served on Olympic Committee and NCAA Gymnastics Committee for 20 years and 18 years, respectively, as well as National AAU Vice-Chairperson. Wettstone also judged the 1952 and 1968 Olympic Games.
