Don Tonry was an all-around champion at the University of Illinois, but his tenure at Yale University as coach and director of physical activity that spanned more than four decades is what defined his career. The 1960 Sullivan Award finalist published two books, Woman’s Gymnastics-Vaulting and Balance Beam and Women’s Gymnastics-Uneven Parallel Bars and Floor. Tonry is a FIG certified judge and served various international meets since his certification in 1969. He is also an NGJA President’s Award recipient.
