Forever remembered for her contribution to the women’s team gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , Kerri Strug is also a protŽgŽ of fellow Hall of Fame coaches Bela and Martha Karolyi. Along with fellow Olympian sprinter Carl Lewis, she was honored with the Olympic Spirit Award that same year by the U.S. Olympic Committee for her brave performance. At the age of 14, Strug was the youngest American representing the United States at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. She is a five-time World Championships team member and has earned over thirty medals in international competitions. After the 1996 Olympics, Strug appeared on the cover of Time and People magazines and on several television shows, including Beverly Hills 90210, Saturday Night Live, Touched by an Angel, America’s Funniest Home Videos, Dateline, The Today Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Rosie O’Donnell Show and as one of the ten most fascinating people on The Barbara Walters Show. Strug was named as a spokesperson for the Special Olympics and the Children’s Miracle Network. She is also involved with other charities, including DARE, Pediatric Aids, Make-A-Wish, Childhelp and No-Addicton, and continues to travel for various appearances and speaking engagements. Strug is a graduate of Stanford University.
