Otto Steffen was one of the early dominant gymnasts in America, as his success at the turn of the twentieth century put him to national prominence. Following nine AAU titles, Steffen made it to his only Olympic appearance in 1904 where he was a member of the silver medal team and he placed sixth overall individually. Steffen competed with the New York Turnverein from 1897 to 1904, but remained a member long after, totaling his membership to more than 50 years.
