Bill Sorenson was a trampoline champion while competing for the University of Iowa, but his major role came after his competitive years as a contributor to the increased safety and durability of gymnastics trampolines and equipment. Sorenson co-founded American Trampoline Co., which manufactured gymnastics and physical education trampolines, many of which were used in competition nationwide. American Trampoline Co. began manufacturing other gymnastics equipment and over time joined various companies to form trademark AAI, a popular and successful line of equipment used today. Sorenson chaired the trampoline sub-committee of ASTM and was a member of the trampoline safety committee of the National Safety Council. Sorenson is a member of the U.S. Trampoline and Tumbling Hall of Fame.
