Two-time gold medalist at the 1963 Pan American Games, Garland O’Quinn stopped competing early to combine his love for the sport with his passion for teaching. He published two books on teaching gymnastics to young children and worked as a college professor teaching physical play for children as well as volunteered with senior citizens, always with an agenda of promoting physical activity. The Army graduate and former Olympian retired in 2005 where he worked on his memoirs and stories in hopes to publish. Beyond honors of being inducted in the Hall of Fame, O’Quinn was recognized with the USGF National Pedagogy Award in 1990 for his teaching methods.
