In 1907, Roy Moore’s fifty-year career in gymnastics that helped to jump-start the sport in America began and his example blazed a trail that established his reputation as a forefather of American gymnastics. He was the first gymnast to be enshrined in the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame and served as a Vice President of the International Gymnastics Federation following a career that included five national titles on the pommel horse, four trips to the Olympics as a head coach and a 38-year reign as Chairman of the National AAU Gymnastic Committee- a position he held until his death in 1957. His innovation on the pommel horse included the introduction of an element to the event now known as a “Moore” and his national championship count of five in the event was only surpassed by one man, Frank Cumiskey, with seven.
