One of the many athletes coached by Bela and Martha Karolyi, Phoebe Mills was a member of the 1988 U.S. Olympic Team. Along with the fourth-place team finish, she also won the bronze medal on balance-beam. Mills was the first U.S. female gymnast to medal in a non-boycotted Olympic Games. That year she also won the U.S. National Championships. She was also named Gymnast of The Year by the USOC and was nominated for the AAU’s Sullivan Award. Upon the completion of her gymnastics career, Mills went on to become a diver at the University of Miami . She specialized in the 10-Meter platform event. As a diver she attended Olympic Festivals and U.S. Nationals. She was the Big-East Conference Champion three years running and she also made the U.S. National Diving Team in 1994. Currently she coaches snowboarding for the Okemo Mountain Snowboard Team and Okemo Mountain School . She has coached elite teams in that sport and been nominated for coach of the year, respectively. Mills holds a BA in environmental policy from the University of Miami.
