Seven years after Bill Meade started the gymnastics program at the University of North Carolina in 1949, he defined his career at Southern Illinois as head coach. During his 33 years at SIU, Meade’s teams took NCAA gold four times, silver three and put together a win streak of 68 dual meets. Meade was involved in six Olympic Games as either a coach or administrator and was a part of numerous international competitions on coaching and administrative staffs. Meade coached 55 All-Americans at SIU, as well as four Olympians and two Nissen Award winners. He is a Southern Illinois University Hall of Fame inductee.
