A native of Illinois, George Lewis made his career in the Pacific Northwest introducing and strengthening the sport at the club, high school and collegiate levels. He founded Gymnastics, Inc., a club that started at the Seattle YMCA and moved to Seattle Pacific University in 1972. He coached two years at Seattle Pacific before coaching independently. The 2002 Washington Hall of Fame inductee went on to train Olympians Joyce Tanac-Schroeder, Doris Fuchs and Avis Tieber-Jamison, as well as U.S. National Team members Laurel Anderson-Tindall and Debbie Halle.
