Steve Hug’s prodigal career gained national attention at a young age, as his selection to the 1978 Mexico City Games at the age of 16 made him the youngest man to compete for the U.S. in Olympic history. He backed up his Olympic experience with three all-around titles while at Stanford along with three U.S. Gymnastics Federation all-around championships. Hug was the first U.S. gymnast to compete for the all-around title in the nation’s history in 1972, and two years later was enshrined in the Stanford University Hall of Fame.
