Without Margaret Brown, it is conceivable that women’s gymnastics would not be the sport it is today. When Brown hit the gymnastics scene in the 1930s, the sport was run by men and for men, but this soon changed thanks to her efforts and vision. Brown carried many titles— delegate, manager, official— but what is most noteworthy is her contribution to help establish the US Women’s Technical Committee based on her observation of the International Women’s Gymnastics Committee. She served for the US in three Olympics, judged internationally and administered both men’s and women’s gymnastics at the national level.
